Internship Program

Second Chance Animal Rescue and Sanctuary (SCARS) is currently looking for forward-thinking, animal-loving college students who would be interested in working with our non-profit and a team of 20+ volunteers. This is a perfect opportunity for any college student that has a desire to work directly with the animals while fulfilling any internship requirements!

SCARS operates with an all-volunteer team, including its board of directors. We operate out of West Orlando, Florida. We rely on our dedicated network of interns, volunteers, fosters, and rescue partners to help care for all the animals in our care and help find them their furever homes. It is truly a team effort of love and lifesaving.

Ideal candidates would be interested in non-profits, animal rescue, bookkeeping, public relations, marketing, and/or social media. We'd love a student who can bring what they have learned in the classroom to marketing the organization and our animals, create new fundraising events, help with securing donations and work with our fosters to increase community support!

Primary duties based on interns’ skill sets could include:

  • Working with our volunteers to ensure proper care and safety of all of our adoptables

  • Getting to know the animals and how they came to the sanctuary

  • Learn how to prepare all animals’ diets

  • Clean animal enclosures, kennels, crates, and play areas

  • Observe veterinarian care

  • Learn how to administer vaccinations, monthly preventatives, & medications

  • Scanning and inputting veterinarian records into each animal's profile

  • Assisting with marketing & social media

  • Working on ideas for new fundraising & donation efforts

  • Admin, bookkeeping, or marketing tasks as needed

  • Landscaping and grounds maintenance

  • General maintenance and repairs

  • Assist in general administrative duties related to animal care, sanctuary procedures, events, and other activities as appropriate

This is a great opportunity to work with a non-profit and gain valuable insight into the animal rescue world. Our ideal candidate would be able to donate a minimum of 16 hours per week, however, we can absolutely approve more hours if they're needed for scholarship or volunteer hour commitments.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be actively enrolled in college and seeking a degree in a related subject

  • Minimum* Internship Time Requirements:

    • 3 months

    • 2 days a week

    • 16 hours a week

Note: the above are minimum requirements, we can certainly allow more days/hours as needed for your internship requirements.
